From Finland comes the XP10 MP3 audio pad. Connected to a PC, it provides direct control over file playback plus the ability to "scratch" the digital audio stream.
The unit itself is quite compact and offers a familiar interface in the form of a mini-turntable controller, plus buttons to control playback. Connections include USB for communicating with a PC and RCA audio outputs to send to your mixer. Up to 4 players can be connected to a single computer. Two XP10 units can be combined to form a 19
inch rackmountable unit.
Windows-based software is also part of the package. It offers a very similar interface to that of the hardware (including the turntable for scratching), plus some file navigation and library functionality. The hardware and software are linked - you can call up your MP3 library, and choose a new track directly from the hardware controller.
Together with the software, the XP10 gives you:
- Scratching
- Instant reverse
- Looping with adjustable In and Out points
- Reverse looping
- Loop scratching
- Multiple cue/loop points per track
- Unlimited storing of cue/loop points for later use (using tags)
Pricing has not yet been set, but the company expects the street price to be about $700. The software will be free of charge and can be used without the XP10. A beta version is now available for download.
