Since its launch in 1998, the Ivory Series has been TL Audio's most successful product range ever. At Frankfurt the company unveiled the new Ivory 2 Series, which replaces the original Ivory line.
The Ivory 2 range still offers five products: the 5001 Quad Valve Preamp, 5013 Dual Valve Equalizer, 5021 Dual Valve Compressor, 5051 Mono Valve Processor and the 5050 Mono Mic Preamp & Compressor, but a whole host of technical improvements and extra features have been incorporated into the new models, with updated cosmetics to match.
The key improvements are:
- Optional 24 bit digital output on all models. This SPDIF format output is selectable between 44.1 & 48kHz and also sports an external wordclock input.
- New discrete mic preamp design on the 5001, 5051 and 5050 models, which also includes a 30dB pad switch.
- Hard and soft knee compression modes on the 5021, 5051 and 5050 models.
- Four switchable attack and release times on the 5021 Compressor.
- Improved optical gate design on the 5021 & 5051 models.
- Instrument DI inputs on each channel of the 5001 Quad Preamp.
- Improved signal metering on the 5001 Quad Preamp.
- Both shelving and peaking modes now selectable on the LF & HF sections of the 5013 Equaliser.
- A 'Fat' contour switch on the 5013 Equaliser which provides a subtle LF/HF lift and a mid cut to provide added warmth and presence.
- Fully balanced line output on the 5050.
- Higher impedance 1 Mohm instrument inputs on all models.
- Improved line level noise performance on all models.
- Enhanced levels of valve drive possible on all models.
TL Audio Managing Director Tony Larking commented:
"The Ivory Series has won many fans and these improvements are really a direct response from Ivory end-users who have given us valuable feedback over the last four years. We think the Ivory 2 now offers better sound and more flexibility, and we're confident it will retain its position as the number one valve signal processing line."
The new series is scheduled for shipping in April.
