EVD6 for Logic 5 Recreates the Hohner Clavinet

Following the success of the EVP88 electric piano, the EVD6 is a new software instrument for Logic 5, which recreates another classic vintage keyboard. The EVD6 is a virtual Clavinet that recreates the sound of the original Hohner D6. It does this through component modelling, an approach which, when coupled with a number of enhancements, ensures that sound creation and modulation possibilities far exceed those of the original stringed instrument. Changing the sound character The EVD6 model provides extremely precise control over the sound. This is evidenced by the ability to emulate the natural degradation of the original instrument, which resulted in characteristic changes to the sound. Such changes include the key click, introduced when releasing a key. This was caused by the aging of the strikers in the original, and can be easily and accurately emulated by the EVD6. The combination of pick-ups can be freely chosen, as with the original. Users can even alter the position of the pick-ups in realtime. These movements can even be automated, to create phaser-like sounds. The basic tone of the EVD6 is created through the selection of a number of preset instrument models. These include the classic D6 and its characteristic overstrung design, through to exotic string sounds. The basic sounds can be modified with damper and key velocity to create individual sounds. These parameter changes can be stored as new instrument settings. Editing and Effects A core element of the sound manipulation facilities is the switchable filter section. In contrast to the original D6, the virtual EVD6 can be played with the filter section turned off. The EVD6 also allows the recreation of other stringed instruments. The EVD6 offers an additional distortion and phaser circuit, plus a wah effect. The user is free to control the order of the effects in the signal path – leading to especially interesting results with various distortion and wah combinations. Wah Effect Controllable via any MIDI controller The integrated wah effect processor allows a range of classic wah effects. The effect is controlled via a MIDI footpedal, but it can also be controlled by any other MIDI controller. There is also a separate wah pedal effect which incorporates an auto-wah, which can be used simultaneously with the pedal control. Wah effect plug-in The integrated wah effect is also available as an independent plug-in. Owners of the EVD6 can use this expressive effect on other sound sources in Logic 5. Price and availability The EVD6 will be available in the 2nd quarter of 2002 with a recommended retail price in Germany of 179,- Euro.
