M-Audio Introduces Nova Condenser Microphone
April 5, 2004
At this year's Musikmesse show, M-Audio announced the new Nova cardioid condenser microphone. This entry-level microphone is based on the same manufacturing techniques used in the company's Luna and Solaris microphones.
The 1.1" diameter diaphragm of evaporated gold is capable of capturing frequencies from 20Hz to 18kHz with +/-1dB tolerance across the entire frequency range. The Class A solid state electronics have a 14dB equivalent noise level (A-weighted) and exhibit only .5% THD at 128dB SPL.
Nova is intended for recording vocals, guitar, piano, and large ensembles, and for capturing ambience and room sound. The tight frequency response makes the Nova a good choice for stereo recording, either using two mics in an X-Y pair, or a single mic as the "Mid" in an M-S pair.
Nova will ship in April 2004 with an MSRP of $129.95. The unit comes with a swivel mount and a soft case.
