M-Audio has introduced the Revolution 5.1 PCI audio card. Built on the same technology and architecture as the Revolution 7.1, the Revolution 5.1 offers a multitude of features.
The Revolution 5.1 brings DVDs, music and games to life via three 1/8" stereo jacks that provide six discrete outputs (five for satellite speakers and one for a subwoofer) for surround reproduction.
The sound stage is fully configurable on the Revolution 5.1. The control panel allows adjustment of speaker size and distance, dialogue clarity, and bass management. In addition, the included SRS TruSurround XT simulates surround sound environments while only using two speakers or headphones. The Revolution 5.1 also features a S/PDIF digital output allowing Dolby Digital and DTS passthrough to home theater systems.
All six outputs can run at sampling rates up to 192kHz at 24-bit resolution simultaneously, providing a true audiophile listening experience. The Revolution 5.1 can also add new dimension to stereo recordings using the SRS Circle Surround II technology. Circle Surround dynamically separates instruments, vocals, and even crowd noise to create a new, larger-than-life surround image from CDs or MP3s, according to the company.
Revolution 5.1 features low CPU usage to deliver fast response that today's gamers expect. Today's hottest gaming extensions, such as EAX, A3D, DirectSound, and Sensaura, are built in to allow 3D audio positioning and realistic environmental simulation. Home musicians will also appreciate the 24-bit/96kHz 1/8" stereo line input for recording their own music. An additional microphone input is also provided for quick connectivity. Revolution 5.1's high 107dB signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio and exceptionally low distortion (THD) rating of 0.0031% insure that sound is clear and clean.
The Revolution 5.1 is scheduled to ship in mid-May at an MSRP of $99.95, including bundled software.
