Muse Research announced that they have enhanced the output section of their upcoming Receptor hardware-based audio plug-in player to include the ADAT "lightpipe" multi-channel digital audio output standard. This hardware addition, included on every Receptor, will allow users to connect directly to digital consoles and DAW systems with eight channels of audio entirely in the digital domain. The feature will be supported in a future software update for Receptor customers.

Receptor is currently configured to support stereo outputs, with balanced / line-level stereo analog outputs as well as S/PDIF coaxial digital outputs as well as a front panel headphone output. The addition of ADAT lightpipe output to Receptor allows you to have eight separate streams of audio to be sent from the unit and fed directly into optical inputs of many mixers, computer audio interfaces, and DAW systems. This increases the total number of outputs on Receptor from four to 12.

Whereas the initial shipping version of Receptor's software will support stereo outputs over the ADAT lightpipe, the company announced that a free software upgrade is planned to add full support of multi-channel outputs.

Receptor already supports complete remote control over Ethernet, allowing it to easily integrate with other computers, as well as to facilitate the control of multiple units over a network. Now, with the addition of the ADAT optical output, the integration with other studio gear improves even more, allowing Receptors to serve as remote processing units that allow a person to add increased computational horsepower to their studios without adding a lot of complexity.
