Why not put two frequently used devices in a single housing and save space? TerraTec Producer's MIDI HUBBLE is both a USB MIDI interface with two MIDI inputs/output as well as an integrated three-way USB 1.1 HUB with three additional ports. All inputs/outputs are provided with status LEDs that indicate all ongoing MIDI operations. In addition, an overcurrent limiter is on board to protect the USB ports. With the optional power unit, each port supplies current ranging up to 500 mA. Usually, connected peripheral devices require less than this so that operating power may also be drawn via the USB interface to a PC or Mac (bus-powered). In the latter case, the ports collectively supply 440 mA of current. But whatever the preferred option, the USB output ports are electronically protected against overload and are equipped with status LEDs.
Additional status LEDs for the MIDI ports light up to indicate that the circuit is receiving signals. As an added feature, the MIDI section was endowed with a small software control panel. Alongside offering a switchable LED status filter (active sensing), the panel lets users assign the MIDI input to the desired MIDI output when a music software application is not accessing the device.
