Presonus Presents Studio One Artist™ - Redefining "Entry-Level"

April 02, 2009

Ever since PreSonus™ developed its first FireWire audio interface, we have bundled third-party, entry-level music-production software with every interface. It was good software, but we've decided that good isn't good enough. We want to provide the best software available. And if you want something done right, you do it yourself.

So we created Studio One, the groundbreaking professional music-creation and -production software for Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista, and then we pulled out all the stops and created Studio One Artist, which will be bundled with every PreSonus interface. We didn't call the bundled software "Studio One LE" or "Lite" or "Home" or any such diminutive name because Studio One Artist is not a lightweight application—it is the most powerful so-called "entry-level" music-production software available. The fact is, Studio One Artist is only "entry level" in comparison to Studio One.

Studio One Artist is based on a cutting-edge 32-bit floating-point mix engine that is identical to that of Studio One in single-precision mode, delivering better audio quality than most high-end professional music-production applications. Studio One Artist has the same easy-to-use single-window interface and browser as Studio One—the friendliest user interface on the planet. This straightforward work environment allows you to track, edit, and mix in one easy-to-navigate window. However, you can separate the Console and Arrange views and can even drag them to separate displays. You also can switch to a larger Console view—yet another way Studio One Artist helps you work quickly while giving you maximum flexibility.

As with Studio One, when you launch Studio One Artist, it recognizes your PreSonus interface, and preprogrammed templates automatically create software inputs and assign them to the appropriate hardware inputs on the interface. Once you've experienced this easy setup, you'll wonder how you put up with old-fashioned manual software configuration.

Studio One Artist also features Studio One's powerful drag-and-drop functions, which are unmatched by any other music-production application. You can drag an audio effect or a virtual instrument from the Browser directly onto a track in the Arrange or Console view and can copy an effect or a whole chain of effects—including settings—by simply dragging to a new track in the Console view. Studio One's Control Link, the most intuitive MIDI-mapping system available, is included in Studio One Artist, making setup for control surfaces and keyboards absurdly easy. And with Studio One Artist's more than 20 ultra-high-quality PreSonus Native Effects Suite plug-ins, you can do a complete professional project without spending hard-earned cash on third-party plug-ins. Use as many simultaneous plug-ins as your CPU can handle—it's up to you.

The innovative Studio One Start page is here, too, allowing you to access recent songs and projects, create new ones, configure external devices, and access tutorial information, demo songs, and a special PreSonus news feed. You can download updates and support materials directly from the Start page without ever leaving the program.

Most software companies cripple their bundled music-production software, forcing you to upgrade if you want to do serious work. Not PreSonus; we want our customers to have a great experience while producing top-quality projects. So we gave Studio One Artist unlimited tracks, and you can record on as many simultaneous tracks as your hardware permits. For example, if you daisy-chain multiple PreSonus FireStudio Projects and FireStudio Tubes, or a pair of StudioLive 16.4.2 mixers, Studio One Artist will let you use the entire system to create monster projects.

We did leave out a few of Studio One's features, of course. Studio One's integrated mastering features (the Project window) and VST, AU, and ReWire support are not included in Studio One Artist. And Studio One has more built-in effects and more bundled goodies, as well as 64-bit double-precision processing. So there are plenty of reasons to upgrade—and we'll make that easy, with a very affordable upgrade path. But even without those features, Studio One Artist gives you everything you need to produce complete, professional-quality, large-scale projects.

Studio One and Studio One Artist change the game, proving that a digital audio workstation can be easy to use without compromising quality or features.
