SPIRIT Prototracker 8-Track In-Line Mixer for Digital Multitracking

April 21, 1995Making high-quality recordings of live performances has never been easier with the introduction of Spirit's new ProTracker eight-channel in-line multitrack recording mixer.

The compact rack-mount console offers an exceptionally simple signal path for optimum audio quality as well as features that make it an ideal partner for affordable digital multitracks. Several ProTrackers may be daisy-chained to allow simultaneous recording on more than eight tracks via its integrated monitor path.

The Spirit mixer also provides simple but effective live mixing facilities for small bands, allowing both FOH stereo mixing and simultaneous recording. In recording applications, simple tracking and overdubbing are also straightforward with ProTracker.

ProTracker's mic preamps improve upon Spirit's previously-acclaimed generations of pre-amp designs. offering a full 60dB of gairi range, the mixer's inputs can handle everything from low-output dynamic mics to active DI boxes.

In addition to the mic input, complete with switchable phantom power, each channel has a balanced line input with built-in DI capability for instruments. Direct channel tape inputs and outputs are switchable for a +4dBu/-l0dBV operation and allow permanently-wired 'in-out-in' connections to cover the whole recording process from initial source input to final tape playback and mixdown.

ProTracker's on-board limiter features a variable threshold and is individually switchable for each channel, so overall recording levels may be set without the worry of tape clipping. Both the channel insert point and aux send are switchable pre/post fader and between channel and tape (monitor) path.

As with other Spirit desks, a powerful High-Pass Filter is provided to cut mic popping and stage rumble, while PFL on channels and stereo returns makes light work of troubleshooting a mix.

With all these facilities housed in a compact 3U rack frame, ProTracker will fit easily into any location recording or outside broadcast system, and has an integral universal switching power supply that will allow it to be used with mains supply voltages from 85 to 264 volts AC or DC.
