Denon DMD-1300P Professional MiniDisc Recorder

December 24, 1997

Well-suited for a variety of applications, including broadcast, recording/dubbing, DJ and sound reinforcement use, Denon's new DMD-1300P MiniDisc recorder houses a wealth of professional MD editing functions in a single 2U chassis.

The sampling rate converter equipped in the DMD-1300P supports a wide range of sampling frequencies that vary according to the digital sound source. The converter automatically detects such frequencies as 44.1 kHz for MD and CD, 32 kHz, and 48 kHz for DAT in standard mode.

The DMD-1300P has been equipped with Denon's ADVANCED Super Linear Converter (SLC) in order to maximize precision in digital-analog conversion and bring to the listener's ears a sound that it highly natural and smooth. The ADVANCED SLC eliminates annoying zero-cross distortion by correcting errors during D/A conversion.

The A/D conversion unit is a fourth-order, sigma-delta A/D converter with 64-times oversampling. The DMD-1300P boasts superior sound image localization with linearity and a high S/N ratio during reproduction all along the sonic spectrum from the deep, rich sound spaces down to extremely low-level signals.

Track numbers, titles, artist names and other information can be entered in alphanumerical characters, including lower- and upper-case letters, numbers and symbols. A maximum of 100 characters can be used for each track.

A comprehensive list of MD editing functions is offered on the DMD-1300P. The DIVIDE function divides a single track into any number of sections for more efficient searching. Any desired point on the track can then be cued up instantaneously. A Rehearsal function is also provided whereby fine adjustments can be made within a range of +/-60 ms at any cued point.

With COMBINE, two consecutive tracks can be joined to form a single track. This function is convenient, for example, when one wants to hear two consecutive musical selections without having to cue up each one separately.

MOVE allows users to easily change the order of tracks that have already been recorded. This function is particularly helpful when one wants to get two tracks next to each other before using the COMBINE function.

The ERASE function quickly erases any specified track. Once a track has been erased, the numbers of the succeeding tracks are automatically revised. This function can also be used to erase the entire disc.

The DMD-130OP's input terminals include one optical digital and one analog input terminal, while the output terminals consist of one optical digital and one analog output terminal.

Approximately 10 seconds of the music signal is entered into a buffer memory when playback is started. This ensures uninterrupted playback of the sound should the player be bumped. The MD unit also features a variety of playback functions, including 25-track program play, random play and repeat play (single-track or all-track).

Included with the DMD-1300P is Denon's RC-264 remote control unit, offering complete control over the MD recorder's functions.
