Martin Adds Three New Models to Mahogany Top 15 Series

September 23, 1998

In 1997, C. F. Martin & Co. reintroduced mahogany top guitars to the Martin product line with the creation of the 15 Series. The first model was reminiscent of the Style 15 Martin guitars made popular during the 1940s, the D-15, a 14-fret Dreadnought with solid genuine mahogany top, back, sides, and neck. With a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $849.00, the D-15 became the lowest priced all solid wood acoustic guitar in the Martin line. More than one thousand D-15s sold during their first year. The price, playability and tone are a winning combination that has now led to the expansion of this exciting series.

Martin is proud to introduce three new additions to the 15 Series: Small bodied 00-15 and 000-15 models, plus the DC-15E Acoustic/Electric Cutaway.

The 00-15 and 000-15 models pay tribute to the small bodied Style 15 and Style 17 Martin instruments made during the first half of this century. These guitars are comfortably sized and possess a rich and delicate tone. It is no wonder that they were so valued by the blues, folk and fingerstyle guitarists of their time.

The more contemporary DC-15E combines the powerful tone of the D-15 Dreadnought with a full access Venetian (rounded) cutaway and a state-of-the-art Fishman/Martin System One onboard pickup system with slider controls.

Features common to all 15 Series instruments include solid mahogany top, sides, back and neck. The soundhole is trimmed with a single banded black and gold herringbone decal rosette. A tortoise colored pickguard protects the top from playing wear. The seams of the body -are carefully fit without bindings. The fingerboard and bridge are crafted from genuine East Indian rosewood. Tuning machines are chrome enclosed with chrome buttons.

15 Series instruments offer exceptional tone, ease of play, and legendary Martin craftsmanship at a tremendous value.
