Sound Dogs Releases Sound FX Library on the Web

October 19, 1998Sound Dogs, a leading sound design team for feature films, has posted a large portion of its diverse and extensive sound effects library and the Sound Ideas sound library on its web site (www.sounddogs.com) for purchase and use royalty-free by other sound designers, musicians, multimedia developers, and other users of digital audio content.

Sound Dogs' three principal partners, Greg King, Bob Grieves, and Rob Nokes, have been amassing high-quality, extremely well documented sound effects since 1991. The sound database is extremely well organized, with sounds categorized by category, sub-category, unique quality, and file name, and with each sound generally tagged with a one-paragraph description, where and at what time of year the sound was recorded, and length.

"We were getting so many requests for access to our sound library that there really was no reason not to post the sounds for other sound designers to use," said Sound Dogs partner Greg King.

The price of sounds is determined by a combination of sound quality 24-bit/16-bit/8-bit depths and 48, 44.1, 22.05, and 11kHZ sampling rates are available and length. This means that the general public can access the library, and pay a small fee (25% of the professional rate) per sound. The pro-consumer, who uses samplers and computer based sound editors, can pay a moderate fee (50% of the professional rate) per sound. The professional user gets diverse high quality sounds at a good price, with immediate delivery.

Sounds are available in a variety of formats including .AIFF, .AU, .WAV, and many others.

The process is as simple as logging on, searching for needed sounds through either a keyword search or a category search, auditioning, selecting, and tagging sounds to purchase, and finishing up with a simple checkout procedure. Users can specify start and end times for each sound in the checkout page. The Sound Dogs server replies with an ftp site address from which to download sounds at the user's convenience. All online transactions are secure.

The website includes detailed information on setting up one's browser optimally for auditioning and downloading sounds, as well as a host of other frequently asked questions.

Sound Dogs offers a money back guarantee if users are not satisfied with the quality of the sound effects library.
