Zoom has entered the market of modeling technology with their new GFX-8 guitar multi-effects unit. The pedal includes both Zoom's V.A.M.S. modeling technology and classic analog sounds for a wide range of distortions along with reverbs, delays and modulation effects - 69 effects in all.

V.A.M.S. (Variable Architecture Modeling System) technology lets guitarists reproduce a particular sound, from the electronic circuitry and sonic characteristics of guitar amps to the specific feel and "presence" of particular guitarists.

The GFX-8 is housed in a rugged, solid metal case designed to handle the most rigorous performance situations. Its user-friendly control panel includes 10 analog-style controls and the operational feel of an analog effect and preamp with a large, highly visible display that reacts instantly to tell you exactly where you are at any given moment.

The GFX-8's 69 effects of course include basic ambient, delay and modulation effects. A special "Acoustic Effect" lets you produce an acoustic guitar sound from an electric guitar without switching the instrument during live performances. The GFX-8 also includes a range of other newly developed special effects like Sample & Hold, Gate Reverb, and Synth.

A patch memory capability of 240 settings (80 user, 160 preset) is complemented by a sampling function with a maximum of 25 seconds that lets you instantly copy any phrase. The Jam Play function allows you to easily play backing rhythms and chords and solos simultaneously.

For those with a Mac or Windows 95/98 computer, the GFX-8 comes with a CD-ROM containing software for managing and editing patches. In edit mode, users can get access to special patch parameters for detailed adjustments that are unavailable through the interface of the GFX-8 itself.

The GFX-8 also includes MIDI capability, rugged metal inputs and outputs to match the housing, a multi-function pedal and a variety of other features.

The new GFX-8 has an MSRP of $499.
