May 17, 1999

Software Technology has updated their VAZ modular software synthesizer to version 2, capable of turning a Windows PC into a virtual analog synth. Design a synthesizer from the 51 different modules provides, using up to 255 modules for a single synth. The software can provide up to 16 note polyphony, and VAZ Modular 2 is also multi-trimbral, supporting up to 16 synths at any one time (processor speed will affect the overall performance.) Your sounds can be further shaped via DirectX and VST plug-ins, which can be used as a module within a synth, or applied at the mixer level. Several commonly used effects are built-in as well.

Armed with VAZ Modular 2, you could easily create VAZ+ by connecting the oscillators, LFO, and filters in a few minutes. But with the modular flexibility, you can go much, much further.

VAZ Modular 2 is controllable via MIDI, or the computer keyboard can be used for easier auditioning of sounds. Sliders and switches can be controlled via MIDI as well so you don't have keep one hand on the mouse at all times. The latency experienced will depend on the precise card and drivers used, but can be as low as 18 ms on some systems.
