June 9, 2000

SpinAudio Software, a developer of audio processing plugins for the music industry, has released VST SkinRack 1.0.

VST SkinRack is a product that allows you to create skin-based control interfaces for your editorless VST Plugins. Basically it creates a new VST Plugin with a name you specify, that when called, provides an editor, or so called virtual rack, that is used to control parameters of editorless plugin it is associated with.

For creating of a new SkinRack, changing parameters of existing ones and removing there is an application called VST SkinRack Wizard that comes with the product.

There are three parameters that you can specify on creating of a new SkinRack: Skin to use, Number of columns in which the plugin parameters will be displayed and SkinRack name. There are two types of skins: slider and knob based. The former provides sliders as a value controls, parameter label and parameter value display, the latter provides knobs respectively, parameter label and value display tips that can be viewed when holding right mouse button.

Due to the fact that you can specify any name for a new SkinRack nothing prevents you from having multiple SkinRacks that wrap the same VST plugin using different settings.

VST SkinRack comes with 14 skins. Additional skins can be found on SpinAudio web site.

Key Features:

  • Individual wrapping of multiple editorless VST Plugins
  • SkinRack works transparently so all the functionality of wrappin plugin is provided
  • Slider and Knob based control interfaces support
  • Easy-to-use management Wizard
  • Skin based interface

SpinAudio also plans to implement the support of custom skins into the next version of VST SkinRack. This feature will allow developers of editorless VST Plugins to create interfaces for their products using all the power of SpinAudio's skin based interface controls without any additional programming. It will be possible to assign different controls such as sliders, knobs, check and radio buttons to different parameters, set their positions, use any background picture and benefit from having automatic VU Meters and about box support. Developers will be able to get this new version for free. Preliminary the release is planned for July, 2000.
