Dolby Digital Plug-In Announced for Nuendo
May 22, 2001Steinberg Media Technologies AG announced the Nuendo Dolby Digital Encoder software plug-in which allows Steinberg Nuendo
projects to be encoded into Dolby Digital, today's most popular multichannel format found in
movie theaters worldwide.
Dolby Digital (AC-3), is the worldwide multichannel audio standard for DVD-V. Dolby Digital is based on an algorithm that takes advantage of auditory masking and both
intra- and inter-channel redundancy to enable the efficient storage and transmission of
high-quality digital audio.
The Nuendo Dolby Digital Encoder is licensed by Dolby Laboratories and comprises full
functionality of the original Dolby Hardware. It supports encoded bit rates from 56 to 640 kbps
and channel configurations from mono to 5.1-channel surround sound. All settings like Bitstream
Mode, Dialog Normalization, Surround and Center Downmixing Level originally invented by Dolby
Laboratories are included with the Nuendo Dolby Digital Encoder. Working with the plug-in is
straightforward, up to 6 single files from the export dialogue or the entire Nuendo project can
easily be selected and sent to the plug-in for immediate encoding.
"With the rapid advances in DVD authoring, Dolby is pleased to introduce Dolby Digital Surround
encoding to the DAW market." said Rashmin Desai, Director, Digital Technologies, Dolby
Laboratories. "Steinberg's Nuendo Media system has received much acclaim by experts in
Surround production and Dolby is proud to work with Steinberg on this product."
"This is the first and only 5.1 software encoding option for Nuendo users" said Manfred Ruerup,
Steinberg CEO. "Since Nuendo was designed from the ground up for Surround production, there has
been a tremendous demand for this product. It really simplifies the the encoding process,
which allows our customers to better serve their clients."
Conceived as a multichannel coding system, Dolby Digital was first introduced in 1992 for
cinema sound. Due to its combination of audio quality, bandwidth efficiency, and flexibility,
it has since become the worldwide standard for multichannel audio for DVD, the audio standard
for ATSC digital broadcast TV and SCTE digital cable TV, as well as an option on laser disc.
Dolby Digital is also increasingly popular for applications such as DVB and other satellite
systems.
The NUENDO Digital Encoder will be available in Q 3/2001 at Steinberg Dealers worldwide. For more information, visit their web site at www.steinberg.net. |
