Preparing for the launch of its Powered Plug-Ins product line, Universal Audio recently
announced an addition to the initial release. Powered Plug-Ins will
now include the Vintage Compressor plug-ins, emulations of UA's own
classic 1176LN and Teletronix LA-2A compressors.
Powered Plug-Ins, running on the super-computing UAD-1 DSP card,
bring professional quality and high-bandwidth processing to native
digital audio workstations. In addition to the Vintage Compressors,
Powered Plug-Ins also include RealVerb Pro, the consummate reverb
plug-in; CS-1 Channel Strip, a comprehensive set of quality effects;
and the UAD-1 PCI DSP card.
Rather than simply modeling compression curves, a comparatively
straightforward approach to compressor emulation, the UA engineering
team modeled the actual circuitry of each compressor. Thorough
circuit analysis and simulation captures the unique character - and
unexpected quirks - of these classic compressors. Modeling the
transformers (including the Putnam-designed 1176 output transformer)
with special attention to hysteresis and core saturation among other
attributes, also contributes to the accuracy of these plug-ins.
Universal Audio - with its Stanford/CCRMA educated engineers led by
Bill Putnam, Jr.- is uniquely qualified to create the definitive
digital emulations of its own classics.
Available in June, 2001, Powered Plug-Ins will initially support the
VST/PC format for compatibility with Steinberg's Cubase and Nuendo as
well as Emagic's Logic Audio. Macintosh versions are anticipated for
a later release. List price is $995USD. For more information, visit their web site at www.uaudio.com. |
