Dynaudio Acoustics' new AIR Software Update Ver. 1.10 enables the AIR series to operate at a staggering sample rate of 192 kHz. Enhancements to existing features like Bass Management have been made and a couple of novelties are added as well. On top of that, the AIR 20 is now THX PM3 certified just like the AIR 6 and AIR 15.
The ability to operate in 192 kHz (Dual Wire) is especially helpful for seamless integration with Digidesign's Pro Tools HD system. A 192 kHz digital output from Pro Tools HD system can be fed directly into the AIR monitors supporting 2.1, 5.1, 6.1 and 5.3 setups.
All 192 kHz setups are connected via the optional Digital Card.
When the need for changing between Near Field and Main Monitors arise, the possibility is now present with the Stereo setup addition. Setting up a set of AIR 20's as main monitors and AIR 6's as Near Field monitors, can be done by chaining the two sets of monitors, so that they receive the same signal. Presets can be made where only one set of monitors is playing and it is then possible to swap between the two pairs of monitors.
The General Bass Management for both stereo and multi-channel purposes are improved and the new functionality, Extended Bass Management, have been added. Extended Bass Management allows the monitors to go to the full bandwidth and utilizes the Subwoofers to add extra bass output.
With a new "Utility Menu" feature that this update brings to the AIR series, it is now possible to change the timing of the standby/Power save mode. Another new feature to be found in the Utility Menu is the possibility to control the Backlight, and if the need for saving the current Global Volume of the AIR speakers should arise, it is also accessible from the Utility Menu. All this can be done directly on the speakers or through the PC-IP Software.
The AIR PC-IP Software has also undergone some changes and additions. Setup information can now be stored as a preset, enabling the user to switch between different setups e.g. switching from analog to digital input. The Advanced Bass Management mode is a novelty and allows the user to choose crossover frequencies for monitors and Subwoofers independently, and thereby giving more flexibility. A single parametric EQ for the sub channel have also been implemented and this feature will allow the user to optimize the performance of the sub channel in the actual environment at hand.
