May 6, 2003The Vienna Symphonic Library has announced that the First Edition of its Orchestral Cube is now available for EXS24 mk II. The Orchestral Cube is a massive treasury of string, percussion, brass and woodwind samples. The collection comprises over 50,000 samples, totaling 45 gigabytes of information. The Orchestral Cube contains single note samples with a variety of dynamics options, as well as a variety of multi-note samples including trills and tremolos. Distributed in the Americas by ILIO Entertainments, the Vienna Symphonic Library is the first fully-integrated orchestral sample library for Logic 5.5 or Logic 6, for either Macintosh or Windows PC.
The second element in the First Edition, the Performance Set, is also set for release in EXS24 mk II format in May 2003. The Performance Set allows users to play real legato in real-time with multiple dynamics, in combination with their exclusive Performance Tool, and contains 110,000 samples covering over 48 gigabytes of information. The creators of the Vienna Symphonic Library have been working extensively with Emagic to integrate their Performance Tool as a direct plug-in to EXS24 mk II, so users never have to leave the Logic environment to access the tool's performance features. The Performance Tool will be available for Mac OS 9 and OS X, and is expected to be ready for download for registered Vienna Symphonic Library users in June of 2003.
The EXS version of the Performance Set plug-in will offer the same modes as the existing GigaStudio version, including:
- Alternation Mode: This revolutionary tool allows users to step automatically from one articulation to another in real time, without the need for operating distracting key switches. This can also be used with the Orchestral Cube.
- Legato Mode: For the first time in the history of electronic music, the Vienna Symphonic Library has made it possible to perform naturally fluid and authentic passages like legato, portamento or glissando in real-time. Again, no pedals or key switches are required.
- Repetition Mode: The Performance Set also allows users to perform repeated notes without the notorious "machine gun effect" that has historically plagued products of this type. The user can control both the timing and the accents in real-time.
Users who order the Complete Orchestral Package for EXS will receive the Orchestral Cube immediately. The Performance Set will be available in June of 2003.
