October 14, 2004

Four years ago, Sadowsky and jazz guitarist Jim Hall decided to collaborate on a signature instrument, fully committed to the idea of an instrument that Jim would want to play regularly, not simply endorse. Sadowsky and Hall also agreed on a laminate construction in the belief that a laminated archtop performs better through an amplifier than a solid wood model. In fact, Hall's previous guitars, a D'Aquisto and Gibson 175 were laminate guitars.

Made of lightweight 5-ply premium flamed maple construction for added resonance and resistance to feedback, the Jim Hall Signature features a 16" body with 2.75" side depth. The one-piece maple neck has a 24.75" scale length, high-grade Ebony fingerboard; dovetail neck joint and 1.75" nut width. Additional ebony appointments include a custom-designed Ebony tailpiece with string ground, ebony bridge, pickguard and control knobs. The premium electronics include a custom wound Sadowsky Jim Hall pickup with gold cover, the high quality pots and a Switchcraft jack.

The Jim Hall guitar is built in Japan under the supervision of the head of Sadowsky's Tokyo workshop, Yoshi Kikuchi. Emblematic of "higher order" offshore craftsmanship, Sadowsky Tokyo was established ten years ago to meet the demand for Sadowsky instruments in Japan. Kikuchi spent a year working at Sadowsky Guitars, NYC before returning to Japan to set up and manage Sadowsky Tokyo. All of the guitars are personally inspected and set up by Yoshi at the Sadowsky Tokyo workshop before they leave Japan. All Sadowsky archtops sold outside of Japan go through Sadowsky NYC for final fretwork and set-up before shipping to dealers.

MSRP for the Jim Hall Archtop Signature Guitar is $3895 with Hardshell case.
