New Marc Quinones Drumsticks from Zildjian
March 11, 1998Zildjian Drumsticks continues to grow its successful Artist Series line of
Drumsticks with the introduction of the Marc Quinones - Salsa Timbale Artist
Series Model. The drumstick is constructed from Select U. S. Hickory and features
a revolutionary enhanced grip handle.
The handle
improves control of the stick during aggressive playing sessions. The handle
can also be used on cymbals, cowbells and other percussion sound sources to
produce an unusual, buffered effect. The Marc Quinones Salsa model is 7/16 of
an inch in diameter and is 16 5/8 inches long.
Marc is well known for his playing with the Allman Brothers Band and countless
recording sessions. He is recognized for his innovative and powerful playing.
Marc states, "Due to the state-of-the-art production techniques that Zildjian
uses to make its sticks, I have been able to design a percussion stick that
gives the percussionist everything they will need in a stick. We evaluated many
handle materials before we selected the final one. Everyone who tested the stick
during its development fell in love with it."
Zildjian Drumstick Product Manager, John Sorenson, states "One of the key reasons
that all of Zildjian's timbale type drumsticks are superior is our centerless
grinding process. A very thin stick, like a timbale drumstick, is easy to warp
during production by the application of uneven pressure on the dowel. We apply
even pressure on the stick during grinding, therefore the stick comes out much
more precise and true. The new handle material is outstanding in terms of grip
and offers the player a new degree of versatility by playing with the grip area
on softer passages."
Marc joins an increasing extensive list of drumming legends in all musical
fields that are playing Zildjian Drumsticks from Dennis Chambers (Jazz) and
Roy Haynes (Jazz), to Adrian Young (Pop) and Luis Conte (Latin), to Vinnie Colaiuta
(Mainstream) and Eddie Bayers (Country). For more information, visit their web site at www.zildjian.com. |
