Ampeg B15-R Portaflex Reissue July 11, 1997
Ampeg announced this week that the long awaited all-tube B15-R Portaflex reissue
with the patented "flip-top" enclosure will be rolling off its St. Louis production line by the
end of June, 1997.
Used on countless session dates over the years and revered as the greatest bass
combo ever, the warm tube sound is back in the new B15-R Portaflex which offers more
power and flexibility than its 1960 predecessor. 100 watts RMS, vintage 15" speaker,
half-power switch, three band EQ, input gain, 5 position mid frequency select, ultra high
and ultra low boosts, XLR out with level control, pre/post select switch, impedance
selector and removable dolly board with casters round out only some of B15-R's notable
features.
Ampeg Product Manager, Tony Moscal said, "We brought in original B-15 Portaflex
amp designer Jess Oliver to help recreate this classic amp in collaboration with
award-winning Ampeg amp designer Obeid Khan. The new B15-R Portaflex offers pure
tube tone for the ultimate in recording as well as enough power and flexibility for live
gigs."
The limited-production B15-R Portaflex lists for $ 1899.00 and the B15-E extension
cabinet lists for $ 699.00. For more information, visit their web site at www.ampeg.com
