Soundtracs Adds to Topaz Line with the RX-8 Console

In a move intended to strengthen its already established position in the console market and to respond to the rapidly changing requirements of a market that is demanding ever-increasing versatility from products, Soundtracs is introducing the new RX-8, the newest addition to the successful Soundtracs Topaz console line. The Soundtracs RX-8 further enhances the Topaz line's reputation by delivering superior performance in two distinct applications -- recording and sound reinforcement -- in a single chassis. Via a unique tape/fx normalling system, the 20-mic/line-input Soundtracs RX-8 can monitor an eight-track mix through its FX returns and then return the same eight tracks in full mono inputs for mixdown mode.
The Soundtracs RX-8 is laden with the type of features found on far more
costly consoles. The three-band EQ with widely swept mid (180 Hz to 7 kHz), is supplemented by an 80 Hz high-pass filter, which provides a steep 18 dB per octave roll-off of unwanted low frequency artifacts from mic inputs. For quick and easy A/B comparisons during the soundcheck, an EQ in/out button is also provided. The RX-8's front end provides for up to 60 dB of gain and accepts up to +22 dBu of level, handling both the weakest dynamic mic and the hottest keyboards with considerable level control. Individual phase reverse buttons address mic placement from the mixing position, and 48-volt phantom power switches enable condenser mic operation for groups of five channels at a time. Another unique feature of the RX-8 are the Tape switches on the first eight line inputs. This allows connection to an eight-track tape recorder whose return signals can be monitored in the FX return section and then rerouted to the fully featured line inputs for mixdown. As an example of its versatility, the RX-8's six auxiliary busses are each fed from an individual potentiometer and every auxiliary bus has global pre/post switches, allowing the user to customize the combination of effects and monitor sends.
For recording applications, the RX-8's Dual Function Master Section provides four stereo faders for control over the console's eight groups, which can be routed to mix and sent to the outputs at the same time. Other high-end features include dual-function FX returns, Pre Fade Listen (PFL) and a stereo After Fade Listen (AFL), 12-segment LED meters and a separate level pot for the monitor output jacks which can feed either control room speakers or be used on stage to feed additional monitor side-fills, depending upon the environment the RX-8 is used in.
The new Soundtracs RX-8 is one the most versatile, feature laden consoles available at this price point.
