New Sabian Duo Hats, Crash and Splash for Hand Hammered Series July 11, 1997
Sabian Ltd. and leading European session drummer Bruno Castellucci have expanded upon their HH
Hand Hammered Duo Ride cymbal concept of semi-lathed, warm, wet/dry sounding cymbals, to introduce
two new models; 10" Splash, 14" Duo Hats and a 16" Duo Crash. Like their namesake, these models
feature uniquely contrasting - and sound enhancing - dark and light lathing rings on their top and bottom
surfaces.
The 10" Duo Splash responds with a fast, dark, and edgey sound that is reminiscent of traditional splash
sounds, whoever, with increased body and definition making it ideal for accenting in any style of music.
With a medium-thin top and a medium weight bottom - both semi-lathed - 14" Duo Hats deliver a warm
and light, breathy variety of sounds containing subtle degrees of dry tonal responses and a somewhat 'funky' feet. This combination of musicality combined with the accelerated speed of the thin cymbal weights makes this pairing ideal for lighter and jazzier playing, including brushwork.
The 16" Duo Crash is, with approximately 3" of its top and bottom surfaces lathed to reveal the brightness
of the bronze beneath, a fast, somewhat dry crash with a warm, almost hot tonality and a quick decay.
While the cymbal responds with punch and definition, its small bell ensures a dynamic response that
corresponds directly to the power of the players stroke, so it can be slapped, stroked or caressed for
immediate and accurate crashing and accenting with no fear of the volume or tonality accelerating out if
control.
Commented Castellucci: "Duo cymbals are very special because they pack a combination of many rich
sounds, but they respond with such control that they become an extension of the drummers mind... they
let you play with your sticks what you are thinking with your mind." For more information, visit their web site at http://www.sabian.com. |
