Acoustics Modeler Adds Realistic Acoustic Environments to Recorded Audio
July 11, 1997
Sonic Foundry, Inc. is pleased to announce a major advancement in computer-enhanced audio with the introduction of its Acoustics Modeler Plug-In (MSRP $249). The software program adds the acoustical coloration of real environments and sound alteration devices to recorded audio. Acoustics Modeler was developed for use with any editor that supports DirectX Audio plug-ins, including Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge 4.0.
While existing audio enhancement tools add reverb to simulate audio environments, the Acoustics Modeler actually incorporates the acoustical responses of a given environment onto a sound file. The result - more realistic reverb.
The program features an extensive library with dozens of acoustic signatures, created from hundreds of hours of precise acoustic measurements. Signatures include recording studios, concert halls, warehouses, tunnels, bridges and woods. In addition, recorded material can be filtered through numerous sound-altering devices such as classic microphones and instrument amplifiers.
Users can also record and access their own acoustic environments with the Impulse Recovery Function, allowing for the creation of unlimited acoustical signatures. Once an acoustic impulse is measured and entered into the system, this capability eliminates the need for expensive repeats of location recordings by allowing users to incorporate any recorded environment into another selection of recorded audio.
Acoustic signatures can also be combined and modified for truly one-of-a-kind audio effects; perfect for computer games and other multimedia applications.
Says Sonic Foundry Vice President of Sales and Marketing Roy Elkins, "We are very excited about the Acoustics Modeler and feel that it will offer audio editors almost unlimited freedom to create both more realistic and more imaginative audio."
