Yamaha's 03D Digital Mixer Now Shipping July 11, 1997
Meeting its reputation for on-time, new product shipments, Yamaha Corporation of America announces the delivery of the new 03D Digital Mixer. With shipments starting in April of this year, the company is seeing a steady rate of orders of its new addition to the very successful digital mixing family.
Based on the technology of the highly successful Yamaha 02R, the smaller, compact 03D has been designed with its own unique features at an even more affordable price. The suggested retail price for the mixer is $3,699. This marks the successful launch of Yamaha's third digital mixer in just three years!
The Yamaha 03D offers 26 inputs, 4 busses plus stereo bus output, 16 direct outputs, six aux sends, and two internal effect processors. Input features include 4-band parametric EQ, bus assignment routing, and a limiter/compressor/gate on every channel. Eighteen of the 26 inputs are analog with 20-bit AD/DA converters, and 8 mic preamps with phantom power are provided. Using the same Yamaha 32-bit DSP engine as found in the 02R, the 03D features superb sonic performance, built-in automation and snapshot capabilities for all mix functions.
Yamaha has included powerful new features to meet the needs of the project studio and post facilities including LCRS surround sound capabilities, RS422 control interface to edit controllers, and the ability for the 03D to control the DSP-based mixers in popular workstations and software platforms.
"We are ecstatic that the industry has welcomed the 03D as it has the 02R and ProMix01 digital technology," states Peter Chaikin, product manager, Recording Products, Yamaha Corporation of America, Professional Audio Products Department. "We knew that a small footprint, low-cost digital mixer was required for use with 8-channel digital workstations and recorders. The Yamaha 03D is proving to be the perfect solution for the project studio, commercial or post facility which needs maximum mixing power, automation and digital interface. All indications are the 03D will have even broader acceptance than the 02R."
The console can digitally interface with digital multichannel devices via a variety of digital interface cards which can be installed in a slot at the rear of the console. These cards are the same cards as used in the Yamaha 02R and when installed in the 03D, can accept 8 digital channels from digital multitracks and other multichannel devices. Additionally, the card sends a total of 8 digital outputs which comprise the user's choice of busses, aux sends, and channel direct outputs to digital MTR and digital audio workstations. Cards are available in AES/EBU, Tascam TDIF, ADAT Optical and Yamaha formats. A cascade kit allows the 03D to be connected with the Yamaha 02R Digital Recording Console. A built-in computer handles console automation when interfaced with an outside timecode source.
Yamaha has defined this product to meet a broad range of needs. The 03D is the perfect solution for the recording project studio or post facility wishing to interface with 8 digital channels of linear or non-linear digital recorders including digital 8-track tape units and 8-channel hard disk recorders and workstations.
The 03D is rackmountable like the ProMix 01. As most audio post and recording facilities are using DAWs and computers for their in-house projects, the 03D features a host of features to control the DSP functions in DAWs. Operation is logical and evident as the 03D incorporates the same large LCD display as the 02R. In addition, a serial port allows the user to connect a standard mouse for fast navigation around the display, and editing of settings. For more information, visit their web site at www.yamaha.com. |
