Roland Introduces DJ-2000 DJ MixerNew Mixer Brings Unique Effects, BPM Control and MIDI Compatibility to the World of DJ Mixing July 10, 1998
Stepping forward to better meet the needs of a growing DJ/dance music market, Roland is proud to introduce its first DJ-style mixer, the DJ-2000 Professional DJ Mixer. This four-channel mixer offers a host of professional features combined with an innovative, DJ-friendly design, sturdy construction, helpful BPM counting and MIDI capability as well as built-in effects based on acclaimed Roland digital signal processing (DSP) technology.
The DJ-2000 meets the professional turntable and CD-based club DJ's needs by offering strong basic mixer features including: straightforward four-channel operation with independent, three-band EQ per channel; an assignable, replaceable Cross Fader; a dedicated Monitor section with an assignable Cue/Sampler output; selectable Phono/Line inputs; and a selectable Level Meter.
Taking its basic channel EQ controls a step further, the DJ-2000 also includes an onboard three-band "Isolator" which can be used to radically boost or cut low, mid or high frequencies between dB and +12 dB. Making Isolator control easy, the DJ-2000 incorporates an innovative Grab switch which allows DJ's to instantly trigger Isolator EQ settings on the fly for drastic sonic manipulation.
Taking a DJ's sonic possibilities even further, the DJ-2000 also offers a built-in DSP Effects section which includes acclaimed Roland multi-effects algorithms like Delay, Flanger, Auto Pan, Filter, Overdrive, Robot, Voice Transformer, "Slicer" and "Jao." The Delay, Flanger, Filter, Auto Pan and Overdrive effects work in much the same manner as other high-quality Roland effects processors, while the unique Voice Transformer and Robot settings can be used to convincingly pitch shift a DJ's voice or a pre-recorded vocal into another gender or into a funky robot voice. New to the Roland effects line-up, the DJ-2000's "Jao" effect processes the input signal(s) through an algorithm designed to produce a unique "jao" sound, while the "Slicer" effect creates rhythmic permutations by rapidly muting and un-muting the music to the beat.
Giving DJ's even more control, the onboard effects can be applied to a specific frequency range (Lo, Mid, High, Full) and channel (1,2, 3, 4, Mic, Master), while all effects parameters can be set intuitively via three knobs. An Effect Balance knob allows for dialing in just the right amount of effects, and all modulating effects are instantly sync'd to the music via the DJ-2000's built-in BPM counter. For even more effects options, the DJ-2000 includes an assignable stereo effects loop for use with external effects processors or outboard EQ--a first in the DJ mixer market!
The DJ-2000's onboard BPM (beats-per-minute) counter automatically calculates and displays the tempo from the music being played via the repeated amplitude of the bass drum. It can also be set manually via BPM Adjust buttons and a Tap Tempo button, allowing not only for the aforementioned effects syncing but for MIDI clock output as well. This feature makes the DJ-2000 perfect for syncing and mixing music from turntables and CD's to a range of other Roland dance gear like the popular MC-303/MC-505 Groovebox, the JX-305 Groove Synth and any other MIDI Clock-compatible device. Conversely, the DJ-2000 can also be used to start/stop such devices for the ultimate in live performance control.
Connections to the DJ-2000 can be made via five pairs of stereo RCA-type Line inputs, three pairs of RCA-type Phono inputs, two dedicated Mic inputs (one XLR and two 1/4" type), stereo 1/4" Effects Loop jacks, RCA-type Sampler outputs and 1/4" and RCA-type Master outputs.
