New American Vintage Instruments from Fender

'62 Jazzmaster '62 Jaguar '62 Telecaster Custom
July 24, 1999

With their enduring popularity among artists of virtually every style of music, Fender will pay tribute to four of its classic guitars this Summer. The '62 Jazzmaster®, '62 Jaguar®, '62 Custom Telecaster®, and '75 Jazz Bass® will all receive a special honors at this year's NAMM show in Nashville, as they are the latest additions to the Fender elite: the American Vintage family of guitars. Unavailable as American-made models for decades, Fender brings these four models home to be produced at its very own state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Corona, California.

Initially aimed at accomplished jazz musicians of the late 50's and early 60's, both the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar eventually enjoyed popularity among the teenage surf bands that dominated southern California of that time. Bands such as The Ventures, The Surfaris and The Beach Boys quickly adopted these guitars for their unique tonal qualities. Since then, the Jazzmaster and Jaguar have found their way into every niche of rock music. From Elvis Costello's Jazzmaster sound of the late 1970's, to Kurt Cobain and the countless grunge bands that made their way to fame in the 1990's, popular musicians continue to break new ground with these classic guitars.

'62 Jazzmaster

First introduced at the 1958 NAMM show, the Jazzmaster witnessed a steady rise in popularity throughout the 1960's. To commemorate this guitar, the '62 Jazzmaster will come equipped with similar features, including: an alder body, special shape maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 7.25" radius, 25.5" scale length, 21 vintage frets, aged white plastic parts, brown shell or aged white/black/white pickguard (depending on color), Fender Stainless Flatwound strings, a brown Tolex® case, a strap and a cable. Color options include. 3-Color Sunburst with brown shell pickguard, Olympic White with brown shell pickguard, Black with brown shell pickguard, Candy Apple Red with aged white/black/white pickguard, Fiesta Red with aged white/black/white pickguard, and Sherwood Metallic with aged white/black/white pickguard. U.S. MSRP is $1,699.99.

'62 Jaguar

In 1962, Fender introduced the Jaguar, offering several new features built around the Jazzmasterstyle body. Its smaller pickups, different switching system, added chrome and smaller scale length, made the Jaguar a guitar all its own. Features on the new '62 Jaguar will include: an alder body, special shape maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 7.5" radius, 24" inch scale length, 22 vintage frets, aged white plastic parts, brown shell or aged white/black/white pickguard (depending on color), Fender Stainless Flatwound strings, a brown Tolex case, a strap and a cable. Color options include: 3-Color Sunburst with brown shell pickguard, Olympic White with brown shell pickguard, Black with brown shell pickguard, Candy Apple Red with aged white/black/white pickguard, Fiesta Red with aged white/black/white pickguard, and Sherwood Metallic with aged white/black/white pickguard. US MSRP is $1,749.99.

'62 Custom Telecaster

For the vintage Tele® enthusiast, Fender presents the '62 Custom Telecaster. A favorite vintage year of many Fender devotees, this new Telecaster recalls the looks, sound and feel of its historic predecessor. In the spirit of the original model, the new '62 Custom Telecaster will come equipped with the following standard features: a double bound alder body, "C" shape maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 7.25" radius, 21 vintage frets, two single coil pickups, aged white/black/white pickguard, Fender Super 25OR strings, a brown Tolex case, a strap and a cable. Color options include: 3-Color Sunburst, Black, or Candy Apple Red. US MSRP is $1,799.00

'75 Jazz Bass

Fender '75 Jazz Bass

Fender is proud to welcome its newest bass guitar to its American Vintage family, the '75 Jazz Bass. This historic model has, since its inception, been a top choice among the pro bassists who defined the soulful and funk-a-delic sounds of the 1970's.

Although the original was a classic instrument in its own time, this new model stands to reintroduce its characteristic look, sound and funky feel to an entirely new generation of bass players. A bound fingerboard with "block" inlays for the maple version, or white pearloid "dot" inlays for the rosewood version, are just two distinguishing features of this bass, which also include: an ash body, maple neck, 7.25" radius, 20 vintage frets, two vintage bi-pole pickups, 2 volume controls, 1 tone control, Fender Super Bass 7250ML strings, a black Tolex case, a strap and a cable. Color options include: 3-Color Sunburst, Black or Natural. U.S. MSRP is $1,799.00
