Korg Introduces D16 Digital Recorder

Korg increases its presence in the digital recording market with the
introduction of the D16 Digital Recording Studio. The D16 is an affordable,
self-contained, compact and flexible 16 track digital recording, mixing
and effects system for the songwriter and home-recordist.
The D16's recording section includes a 16 track, uncompressed 16-bit
(44.1k sampling rate) digital recorder. Eight tracks can be recorded simultaneously,
and each track has 8 virtual tracks. Included is a 2.1 GB hard drive (which
provides 6.5 track hours of recording) and a SCSI connector for connection
of up to 7 external drives with a maximum of 1000 GB each. CD-R and/or
CD-RW discs can be burned directly when connected to a SCSI compatible
CD recorder. The D16 also features an uncompressed 24-bit mode for the
ultimate in sound quality.
The D16 features a 26 input, 8 bus digital mixer. Master, Monitor as
well as Aux sends are provided. Each channel has a 3-band EQ with sweepable
mid. The D16's eight balanced inputs include two with combination XLR-1/4"
connectors and there is a dedicated guitar input eliminating the need
for an external DI box. The system includes 24-bit, 64x oversampling A/D
converters and 24-bit, 128x oversampling D/A converters for high quality
sound. In addition, a 24-bit S/PDIF optical I/O is included (with sampling
frequency converter) for digital connectivity. The D16's comprehensive
scene automation offers users automate-able Fader, Pan, EQ, Aux Send,
FX level and FX program.
The D16's effects section is extremely comprehensive with eight insert
effects, two master effects and one final effect that can all be used
simultaneously. The effects section includes Korg's own REMS effects modeling
technology featuring microphone, amplifier, cabinet and effects modeling
algorithms. 128 presets and 128 user program locations are provided for
insert effects while 64 preset and 64 user program locations are provided
for master effects. The 57 different effect types that are provided can
be linked into up to 100 multi effect chains. An expression pedal input
is also included, allowing for real time control of effects parameters.
Other features include a Korg Touchview™ display for easy navigation
of the D16's operating system, built-in 8-voice PCM based drum machine
and auto-chromatic tuner.
The D16 will be available in Fall 1999, with pricing to be announced
