PG Music Releases Oscar Peterson Multimedia CD-ROM

July 23, 1999

PG Music Inc. and Kelso Music proudly present the Oscar Peterson Multimedia CD-ROM, an in-depth exploration of the life and music of this legendary Jazz pianist in a full-featured multimedia music program with 8 live audio recordings, 6 memorable concert and television videos, 10 MIDI Blues Etudes, and a host of powerful multimedia programming features that bring new dimensions to the appreciation of Oscar Peterson's peerless talent.

Oscar Peterson's signature CD-ROM raises the Multimedia experience to a new level of artistry by seamlessly merging his musical genius with the imaginative application of multimedia technology. Interactive audio/visual performances are integrated with on-screen piano display, professional piano charts, and Oscar Peterson's recorded audio commentaries. The user can see and study exactly what the master is playing, with the added pleasure of listening to Oscar Peterson's engaging personal anecdotes and brilliant musical insights.

The powerful and innovative new Multimedia engine reveals every nuance of Oscar Peterson's virtuosity. For the first time it is possible to experience audio performances perfectly synchronized to the real-time display of transcribed notation and an on-screen virtual piano keyboard. An extensive list of ancillary MIDI features allows the user to slow the tempo, step through the piece note by note, loop selected segments, or transpose the music into a favorite key.

Fourteen complete Audio/Video performances are included. Oscar Peterson performs some of his greatest recorded works, including The Smudge, Hogtown Blues, Chicago Blues, Place St. Henri, Nightingale, Hymn To Freedom, Night Time, and Blues for Big Scotia. Every note of the eight audio performances is seen in notation and played in real time on the virtual piano keyboard.

The six fabulous full-length video performances include Place St. Henri, City Lights, Slow Blues (with Count Basie), The Theme, Bach's Blues, and Love Ballade. These videos are taken from memorable television specials and from Oscar Peterson's BBC Television series.

There are ten MIDI transcriptions of famous Oscar Peterson blues performances, precise 'note-for-note' transcriptions and performances of Oscar Peterson blues originals including Riff Blues, Blues Etude, Blues Of The Prairies, Greasy Blues (for Count Basie), Gay's Blues, Texas Blues, Ron's Blues, Kelly's Blues, R.B. Blues, and Oscar's Boogie. On-screen notation and piano display enable in-depth study of over 100 choruses of authentic Oscar Peterson blues.

The interactive Autobiography, plus Oscar Peterson's recorded audio Commentary, Song Notes and a Photo Gallery further enhance the wealth of musical content. The Autobiography is an intimate portrait of his life and music from the early days in Montreal to the present, a delight for Oscar Peterson fans. It is supplemented by the Timeline, a convenient guide to the highlights of Oscar's life and career.

In more than two hours of recorded audio Commentary, Oscar Peterson tells the story of his life, music, and the musicians he has worked with - Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Ray Brown, Herb Ellis and many others. Recorded audio Song Notes provide musical analysis of the audio performances by Oscar himself. The Photo Gallery is a browser's delight with over 100 of Oscar's favorite photos - memorable moments, famous friends and Jazz musicians, landmark performances, awards, mementos and more.

The complete Discography features a search engine to instantly find the details of any recording. All of Oscar Peterson's recordings are included, over 3,000 pieces in over 400 sessions and over 1,000 albums recorded from 1945 to the present.
