Yamaha Expands Compass Series Guitar Line

July 23, 1999

At Winter NAMM, Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Guitars, set a new standard in performance, styling and sound when it introduced the Compass Series of professional-quality Handcrafted acoustic guitars. That impressive line grows with the addition of the CPX15E "East" model, which boasts a unique "Sand burst" finish and new Eastern motif details.

Like the other members of the series, the CPX15E will offer a unique single-cutaway body shape with a solid sitka spruce top to deliver a stirringly clear and articulate acoustic sound. The bound ebony fingerboard ensures the precise tone and fast action that professionals crave. If that's not enough, an L.R. Baggs pickup system/preamp combines a bridge-mounted piezo with a microphone, which can be blended for stunningly realistic acoustic sound amplified.

"Players will want to plug this guitar in for the full effect," states Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "The highs are strong and clear, providing a realism that is unprecedented."

Also unprecedented for a guitar in this price range is Yamaha's commitment to bold and unique visual styling. The CPX15E's Eastern motif is achieved by using the finest materials available, including gold die-cast tuners and a stunningly beautiful sound-hole hieroglyphic, realized in such rare woods as Mahogany, Rosewood, Cypress and Paduk. A complimentary Pyramid and crest inlay set off the fingerboard.

Yamaha Combo Group marketing manager David Bergstrom asserts, "The new Compass CPX15E is for the player who has definitive ideas about how an acoustic guitar should sound when amplified or recorded. The looks are bold and will definitely turn heads."
