New Powered Studio Monitors & Subwoofer
From YamahaSW10 Subwoofer Debut at Winter NAMM 2000, MSP10 Monitors Now Available In Distinctive Maple Sunburst Color
February 6, 2000
Expanding on its nearfield monitor expertise exemplified
in the industry-standard NS10M and, most recently, the MSP5, Yamahas
latest entry into the professional audio market, the MSP10 high end studio
monitors and comparable SW10 powered subwoofer system make their Winter
NAMM debut. The MSP10 powered monitors are now available in a vibrant
Maple Sunburst color (MSP10M) making its mark at this winters show.
"The
success Yamaha has had with the NS10M encouraged our engineers to raise
the stakes and produce a high-end powered monitor that expands on the
Yamaha tradition," states Wayne Hrabak, pro audio marketing manager,
Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "The
MSP10s have received an extraordinary reception, and now their availability
in a distinctive Maple Sunburst color is sure to generate greater interest."
The MSP10 bi-amped monitor speaker has been designed specifically for
the professional recording, post production, broadcast, and project studio
markets. With exceptional sonic quality, and extremely flat response over
a wide listening area, the MSP10 features an 8-in. long-throw woofer housed
in a bass reflex design cabinet, providing a deep and tight low end. Its
1-in. pure titanium dome tweeter with wide dispersion waveguide horn provides
a smooth, high frequency response to beyond 40 kHz. "Internally powered,
the MSP10s 120 watts for low frequencies and 65 watts for high frequencies
optimize this speakers extraordinary sound quality," adds Hrabak.
New, full magnetic shielding eliminates virtually all stray radiation,
allowing positioning near sensitive recording equipment and media. For
compatibility purposes, the inputs are balanced XLRs.
Designed specifically to complement the MSP10, the SW10 powered subwoofer
can also be used with the Yamaha MSP5 speakers or other compact systems.
This 10-in. long-stroke subwoofer features exceptionally low distortion
and a 180-watt power amplifier, delivering tight, clean bass power.
"Placing 180 watts within inches of the driver helps provide the
accuracy needed for a truly professional subwoofer," states John
Schauer, pro audio product manager. "Heavy wood construction assures
the engineer that he or she is hearing the audio signal, not the cabinet."
A variable low-pass filter from 40 Hz to 120 Hz allows optimum compatibility
with any main speaker system. A built-in phase switch enables instantaneous
phase reversal without cable or connector modification. Three balanced
XLR inputs and outputs allow the SW10 to be integrated into any audio
system. As with the MSP10 monitors, the SW10 provides full, magnetic shielding.
"The SW10 provides the needed bass enhancement that producers and
mixing engineers are looking for," adds Schauer "without the
distortion and fatigue common in smaller systems."
