Emulator IV Hardware Software Options January 18, 1996
E-mu Systems(R), Inc. today announced two new hardware options and new operating system software for the Emulator(R) IV ( E-IV) Professional Digital Sampler at the 1996 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show. The option cards and EOS software version 2.0 will be available from authorized E-mu E-IV dealers worldwide in early spring of 1996. The hardware options consist of user-installable cards that add 8 outputs, or an 18-bit effects (FX) processor. The Emulator Operating System (EOS) software version 2.0 includes a Playback Sequencer/Data Filer and the SoundSprint(TM) browser. The E-IV is a sophisticated professional digital sampler that boasts 128 voices of polyphony, 128 6-pole digital resonant filters and is expandable to 128MB of sound memory.
The new output system option card (model #6311) will add 8 analog balanced 1/4" outputs, giving the E-IV an unprecedented total of 16 polyphonic analog balanced outputs.
The FX option card (model #6312) adds a dual stereo 18-bit effects processor to the E-IV. The E-IV FX card has a sophisticated mixing scheme and high quality algorithms like reverb, delay, chorus and flange. Effects can be modified per preset and be recalled with each preset seamlessly.
With the addition of an effects MIDI channel, the E-IV will be able to switch effects during a Multi-mode performance giving the user the flexibility and power of real-time control over effects.
The main features included in the EOS software version 2.0 are a 16 track Playback Sequencer/Data Filer and SoundSprint. The Playback/ Sequencer is capable of reading standard MIDI files (format 0 and 1) direct from floppy disk and also from an internal hard drive. The Data Filer provides an onboard MIDI file utility for storing both studio set-up data files, as well as song playback. SoundSprint is an exciting new feature that allows fast access to sounds from a hard drive. Users can browse through and play sounds as if they were sitting in a "virtual ROM bank." The EOS software version 2.0 will be bundled with a CD-ROM, entitled "Evolution of Emulation Volume #1."
"The Emulator IV is one of the music industry's most powerful samplers and with the addition of these new options, the E-IV becomes even more valuable to the user," said Sean Wilhelmsen, E-mu Systems Product Manager. "E-mu's commitment to provide hardware options and software on an ongoing basis will strengthen the Emulator IV's leadership position in the sampler market."
