Korg NS5R Synth Module

January 16, 1997

Korg USA announces the introduction of a new level of sound capability in a half-rack module. The Korg NS5R Synthesis Module features 1049 programs, 384 combinations, 64-note polyphony plus onboard signal processing, all using Korg's highly acclaimed AI2 Synthesis System assuring users of the absolute leading edge in digitally sampled sound.

The NS5R features a high-capacity PCM ROM with 12 Mbytes of waveform memory to ensure the highest quality sounding programs and combinations of sounds available. With 64-note polyphony and the ability to function as a 32 channel multi-timbral tone generator, the Korg NS5R is ideally suited for computer sequencing/multi-media applications. In addition, the NS5R has a built-in computer interface that allows interfacing directly to a Macintosh or PC-compatible computer. Further, Line-in jacks allow the sounds of other instruments to be outputted together with the NS5R without the need for a external mixer.

The feature set of the Korg NS5R Synthesis Module is truly extensive:

  • State of the art synthesis with Korg's AI2 Synthesis System, the same technology used in Korg's industry-leading professional workstations such as the O1/W and M-1 music systems.
  • The NS5R comes with 1049 sound programs, 384 combinations and 37 drum programs in ROM memory. All sounds are fully editable, and the NS5R provides 128 RAM programs and 128 RAM combination locations to store sound edits and combination setups.
  • The NS5R is equipped with a Wave Blaster(TM) daughterboard compatible card slot, allowing users to increase the NS5R's polyphony up to 96 voices. Cards can also be added to make the NS5R completely XG(TM) or GS (TM) compatible. The versatile NS5R can playback virtually any type of commercially available music data, making it perfect for multi-media applications.
  • The tone generation section features 12 Mbytes of waveform memory, 64-voice polyphony and 32-channel multi-timbral capability.
  • Onboard digital multi-effects are stereo with independent L-R channel control, with 47 effects programs including chorus, delay, overdrive, reverb and rotary speaker.
  • A new high-visibility graphical user display interface has a 144 X 40 dual-color backlit LCD that's easy to see and offers users instant display status via bar graph displays, knobs and sliders.
The new NS5R Synthesis Module provides a vast library of Korg's critically acclaimed sounds, extensive and comprehensive features including GM compatibility and onboard processing, which makes the NS5R perfect for a wide-variety of applications that range from music recording to multi-media presentations.
