Lexicon Launches "Custom Shop" Line of Output Guitar Electronics

January 29, 1998

Lexicon, the leading manufacturer of digital effects processing, is introducing a line of products specifically designed for the performing and recording guitarist.

For years, guitarists have struggled to duplicate studio sounds during live performance. Additionally guitarists have tried to capture their performance effects in the studio. However, guitar rigs are generally designed for only one of the two applications. To address this problem, Lexicon established an artist advisory panel in the Spring of 1996 for direct input from performers, producers and recording engineers. This collaboration of aspiring recording artists, seasoned performers, and legendary talents such as Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin), proved to be an inspired blend of art and technology. At this NAMM Show, Lexicon is introducing an exciting new set of products that can be used as individual components or combined to form complete systems.

Firmly focused on the elements of tone and the awareness that a guitar player's amp is central to that tone, Lexicon designers produced the MPX G2 Guitar Effects Processor featuring authentic effects, analog and digital effects, that can be placed anywhere within two separate audio paths. This unique design gives guitarists complete freedom in effects signal path positioning - in front of an amp, in the effects loop, or both. For direct recording or PA applications, the MPX G2 can be used without an amplifier as a stand-alone programmable analog preamp with effects. Lexicon's optional MPX R1 MIDI Remote Controller provides hands-off control of all the MPX G2 features, programmable relays for amp switching, and sophisticated MIDI control of other devices.

Another Custom Shop introduction, the Signature 284 recording amplifier, provides the great tone of a "fully -cranked" amp at reasonable volume levels, combining the gorgeous tone of vintage amps with state-of-the-art all-tube design. Designed for Lexicon by tube amplifier guru, John McIntyre, the Signature 284 is the ultimate guitar recording amp. Rounding off the Custom Shop product introductions, Lexicon will also offer custom speaker cabinets for use with the Signature 284 amp.

Drawing on their expertise in recording and performance effects, as well as the combined experience of its artist advisors, Lexicon has introduced a line of products that can stand alone or be integrated with classic gear.
