Pearl Introduces New Mahogany Snares
 January 29, 1998New MHX Masters Mahogany Classic Limited Edition snare drums join Masters Series Mahogany and Omar Hakim Signature snare drums, the only line of professional mahogany snare drums in the world.
The MHX-5514 (5 1/2"x14") and MHX-5514D (6 1/2"x14") are the newest members of Pearl's line of professional snare drums featuring African mahogany shells, a Pearl exclusive. The MHX have incredibly deep and warm sound like the Omar Hakim Signature and Masters Mahogany snare drums. However, thanks to dense rock maple reinforcement hoops that add brightness, the MHX-5514 and MHX-5514D have outstanding "cut" and projection. The MHX are the ideal choice for those seeking super-deep "lows" and crisp "highs" in the same snare drum.
MHX are equipped with low mass, "bridge-style" lugs for maximum shell vibration and resonance. Solid brass lug inserts resist tension rod slippage thus help keep the drums in tune longer.
The MHX-5514 and MHX-5514D feature SuperHoop II rims with newly engraved "Pearl SuperHoop" emblem. The SuperHoop's heavy-duty 2.3mm steel construction allows precise tuning, gunshot-like rimshots, and solid stick-across-rim sound.
Precision snare beds and SR-017 "vertical-pull" strainer permit ideal snare-to-head contact for pinpoint articulation and superb sensitivity. Specially braided, stretch-resistant snare cord assures accurate snare tensioning and long, dependable service.
The MHX's #141 Red Mahogany super hi-gloss lacquer finish is universally appealing and complements all sets regardless of color.
