Remo Announces New "Molded Bearing Edge" Technology
January 29, 1998Remo Belli, president and founder of Remo, Inc., has announced the development and introduction of the "Molded Bearing Edge" -- a revolutionary advance in drum manufacture that combines Remo's more than 40 years of experience in the drum business with leading edge computer technology. The result of several years of research and development, the "Molded Bearing Edge" is a seamless, perfectly round, perfectly level edge that is formed from a spaceage resin using computer assisted design and manufacturing processes. According to Remo, this unique combination of manufacturing methods and materials creates an edge that is strong, durable and reinforced to maintain its shape -- a "super edge" that is an integral part of any drumshell it is applied to.
"The bearing edge is an essential and important part of any drum," says Remo. "Yet in the past only the most expensive drums have had good edges because applying them was extremely time-consuming. Our Molded Bearing Edge now allows high-end drums to be made less expensively and entry-level drums to perform at an appreciably higher level."
"The technology of the Molded Bearing Edge allows the shape, angle, size and position of the hoop's bearing edge to be independently controlled in order to achieve a predetermined balance of performance characteristics (stick response, dynamic range, tone control, tone quality, etc.) with an unprecedented level of precision and consistency," Remo continues.
