Boss Unleashes GT-3 Guitar Effects Processor

January 28, 1999

BOSS is proud to introduce the GT-3 Guitar Effects Processor, an affordable pedalboard-style guitar multi-effects processor which boasts killer BOSS sound quality. With an extremely flexible COSM-based preamp section and effects, plus features borrowed from the top-of-the-line GT-5 unit, BOSS's new GT-3 distinguishes itself as a true price/performance breakthrough.

The GT-3's 32 onboard effects include 11 different types of analog overdrive and distortion sounds, plus chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, reverb, tremolo, vibrato, panning, wah, intelligent harmonist, acoustic guitar simulation, guitar synth effects and more. Thirteen of these effects are available simultaneously, and without exception, these effects sound a "cut above" other floor-based processors thanks to the GT-3's 24-bit A/D converters, 20-bit D/A converters, built-in expression pedal and uncompromised design.

Of special note are the GT-3's new effects, including "Auto Riff," "Slicer," a Pickup Simulator, an enhanced Feedbacker effect, and effects designed for acoustic-electric instruments. Auto Riff lets users play a single note and trigger a complete musical riff, allowing beginners to sound like pros with lightning-fast tapping riffs, funky riffs and more.

The onboard Pickup Simulator processes a single-coil guitar to sound as if it's got fat humbucking pickups, or vice-versa. Slicer produces rhythmic "chopping" patterns in the guitar's output, sounding like a cross between a guitar and a wild techno synth. Feedbacker has been enhanced to more easily produce natural feedback based on a guitar's natural overtones and fundamentals. And new acoustic-electric effects include a built-in Anti-Feedback processor, a Bi-Stereo Chorus effect, and an acoustic-electric preamp setting which produces natural, balanced output when plugged into a conventional guitar amp.

The GT-3 also includes a flexible COSM-based guitar preamp section which uses some of the same technology that's behind the revolutionary VG-8 V-Guitar System. This gives the GT-3 a choice of 14 vintage and modern amp types, plus their corresponding speaker cabinets and even mic simulations. These amp models can be combined with the 11 analog distortion and overdrive effects (plus an effect which patches in external OD/DS boxes) and extensive onboard EQ for unrivaled flexibility in tone tweaking.

For beginners, or those who simply don't want or need to do comprehensive editing, the GT-3 offers an EZ Edit function that allows quick edits to each effect sound with just four parameters. Plus, the GT-3 offers a variety of Quick Settings which let users select effects sounds without even touching the individual parameters (using terms like "Long Delay," "Short Delay," etc.). Of course, the GT-3 also provides more experienced users with full effects editing capabilities including effects order and routing, control pedal and expression pedal assignments, MIDI control and more. And the GT-3 is built using an all-metal chassis and extremely durable parts for years of reliable, trouble-free use.
