Electro-Voice Debuts M2 High-Performance
Mixing ConsoleNew EV Console Aimed at Wide Variety
of Markets January 28, 1999 Electro-Voice proudly introduced the M2 High-Performance Stereo Mixing
Console at the NAMM Convention. The M2 is aimed at a wide variety of markets
including bands, clubs, churches, schools and corporate A/V applications.
"The M2 is a full-featured, two-buss stereo mixing console powerful
enough for multiple live applications, yet easy to use by both the novice
and the professional," says Mike Torlone, director of marketing music
products for Electro-Voice. "The M2 has a logically designed, spacious
control layout that will appeal to all users, while coming in at a great
price point."
The Electro-Voice M2 stereo mixing console comes in two electrically-identical
models: the M2/12 12-channel, 2-buss mixer and the M2/16 16-channel, 2-buss
mixer. Each input channel features a peak overload LED, input trim control
and mic/line input switch. Inputs are 3-pin balanced XLR-type with universal
phantom power and balanced 1/4-inch high-impedance line input. The three-band
EQ offers +/-15 of boost or cut with low and high fixed frequency shelf-type
controls and a sweepable frequency mid control ranging from 250 to 5000
Hz. Pre-fade listen (PFL), channel mute switch and a 60mm fader join four
aux sends, with aux 1/2-fixed pre-fader and aux 3/4-fixed post-fader,
to round out the input section.
The master section includes four aux master sends, each with LED overload
indicator and after-fade listen switch, two stereo (mono-compatible) aux
returns with level and balance controls, and two 10-segment LED meters
for monitoring either the master outputs or the mono/PFL signals. Outputs
are controlled by 60mm faders and offer mute switches. Separate record
output and tape playback controls, and a headphone amplifier with gain
control round out the master section.
The frequency response for a mic input to master output without EQ measures
an elegantly flat 20 to 20,000 Hz at + 1/-2 dB with a total harmonic distortion
of <0.1 percent at +14 dBu output into 600 ohms. Equivalent input noise
is an impressive -127 dBv on the microphone input with a silent -95dB
residual output noise at the balanced outputs, while 0 VU on the meters
equals +4 dBu (1.23 volts). The M2/12 weighs in at 26.45 lbs. and the
M2/16 at 30.80 lbs.
"The M2 is the perfect package for any application needing the simplicity
of a two-buss design," Torlone explains. "We expect the M2 will
enjoy wide market acceptance." Visit Electro-Voice (a division of Telex) on the web at www.telex.com. |
