Fostex Announces D-160 V2New D-160 V2 includes WAV file compatibility, graphical audio level display and refinements, and new edit capabilities January 28, 1999In a move that will further expand the reach and capabilities of the hard disk
recording market, Fostex Corporation of America today introduced the 16-track
Fostex D-160 V2, the next generation of the company's highly successful D-160
line of removable media hard disk recording and editing systems. The new Fostex
D-160 V2 brings to the market the most comprehensive set of features and functions
yet seen, and does so while incorporating the Fostex commitment to deliver feature
sets that people need at prices they can affor. The new Fostex D-160 V2 was
unveiled at the 1999 NAMM Convention in Los Angeles at Booth #1155.
The Fostex D-160 V2 features full random access editing functions across all
16 tracks plus 8 virtual tracks for 24 tracks total, independently selectable
sampling rates of either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz; a +/- 6-percent Varipitch function
and MMC record track select function allowing the D-160 to record-enable individual
slave deck machine tracks. Also included are highly sophisticated synchronization
capabilities such as MTC-only chase function and ADAT and SCSI interface to
deliver unparalleled flexibility.
To this formidable array of functions, the new Fostex D-160 V2 adds the following
capabilities:
- .WAV file compatibility - which enables the D-160 V2 to save and
load audio data in the industry-standard .WAV file format to and from external
DOSformatted recording media via the D-160 V2's standard SCSI port. The inclusion
of this capability adds massive versatility to the already highly capable
D-160 platform, bringing virtually complete compatibility with almost any
other type of digital audio platform currently in use today.
- A Level Envelope Display - shows sound levels graphically while using
the D-160 V2's jog wheel, providing a precise visual guide for edit decision
points. This feature will save significant amounts of time in editing, at
the same time making edits themselves considerably more precise. In addition,
the enhanced graphical display capabilities of the D-160 V2 now include a
preview function, an intuitive software enhancement which will further enhance
digital audio editing by allowing even more precise edits via the ability
to preview the results before the edit decision is taken.
- The Fostex D-160 V2 now has six user-assignable edit memory points and 99
memory location points. Memory points for edit functions Clip Board In/Out,
Auto Punch In/Out, Start and End functions make precise edits easier than
ever, while 99 points of locate memory make finding edit points a breeze.
"The introduction today of the Fostex D-160 V2 hard disk recording and
editing system reflects the ongoing commitment that Fostex has made to develop
comprehensive yet cost-effective digital audio systems that meet the needs of
the real world," said Phil Celia, Fostex Corporation of America Director
of Sales. "The inclusion of .WAV file format compatibility will allow Fostex
users to interface with a much larger cross-section of the industry and to do
so with full functionality at an affordable price."
Fostex offers D-160 V2 models with a balanced I/O option, a built-in time code
option or both balanced I/O and built-in time code. The Fostex D-160 V2 is available
with removable drive for $2,195.00 MSRP. Multiple D-160 V2s can be cascaded
