January 28, 1999Professional audio manufacturer Mackie
Designs Inc. (NASDAQ: MKIE) announced today the introduction of a proprietary
line of new active sound reinforcement products, The FUSSION Series Active Sound
Reinforcement Speakers. With the introduction of this technology, Mackie is
creating a paradigm shift in the pro audio speaker market.
As a result of the 1998 acquisition of Italian speaker manufacturer Radio Cine
Forniture (RCF), which has 50 years of loudspeaker development and manufacturing
experience under it's belt, Mackie Designs now has a world class acoustics manufacturing
plant and the engineering resources required to be a dominant player in the
professional speaker market segment. In that acquisition, Mackie also acquired
FUSSION Audio of Costa Mesa, California.
"Application of this technology in the studio monitor market has become
completely accepted as exemplified by the Mackie HR824's Active Near Field Studio
Monitor's phenomenal success," remarked Marcelo Vercelli, Mackie Designs
Product Manager, Acoustics Division.
"The focus of our development has been on three families of active speaker
products. The flagship is the FUSSION 3000 Active Full Range Sound Reinforcement
Speaker System. We believe active is the only way to do it right. The FUSSION
3000 is a full range 3-way active speaker that incorporates state of the art
technology to deliver unparalleled output with the lowest possible distortion
and highest clarity. It is ideal for use in sound reinforcement applications
when precise reproduction of transients, high levels of intelligibility and
compact size are required. Mackie has used active speaker technology to create
a new standard in a "flown array" package. The FUSSION Series is a
High Precision / Extreme Output line of speakers and will be made available
to a selected number of Pro Audio dealers. Pro Sound dealers and contractors
involved with professional PA, rental and fixed installations are our key targets
for the FUSSION Series," added Vercelli.
The FUSSION 3000 is the first professional sound reinforcement speaker system
to completely create an ideal union between speakers, compression drivers and
amplifiers. To ensure long term reliability and performance, the amplifier cards
and processor are mounted to a huge three square foot heat sink eliminating
the need for fans and dramatically extending life expectancy while eliminating
maintenance cycles.
The input and control panel offers unprecedented signal routing flexibility.
All connections are via XLR connectors. There is a main input with a loop through
output for connection of other enclosures. Additionally, there is a "sub-out"
connector for connection to an active subwoofer system like the FUSSION 1800AS.
This output incorporates a low pass filter for delivering a line level signal
below 85Hz. For sound reinforcement situations where "fill" speakers
are needed, there is a "fill-out" output connector with level and
(0º - 180º) phase control. The FUSSION 3000 can run on 115V AC or
220V AC and features soft start circuitry that eliminates "pops" and
precisely controls inrush surges.
The FUSSION 2000 is a compact, 3-way high output, medium throw, active speaker
system. It features specially designed, high output transducers including a
special eight inch, horn loaded mid-range which allows the FUSSION 2000 to generate
extremely low distortion (<.05%) at full power. The mid-range operates between
the frequencies of 500Hz and 2,500 Hz eliminating the placement of a crossover
point in the middle of the critical voice frequency range. The result is super
smooth phase and power response that deliver extraordinary intelligibility at
extreme output levels. Frequencies above 2,500 Hz are reproduced by a 1.75"
titanium diaphragm compression driver mounted to a 90 x 75-degree horn with
a 1" exit throat. The FUSSION 2000 delivers deep bass through the use of
two 12" high output woofers.
The FUSSION 800wa Active Stage Monitoring Speaker System is specifically designed
for stage-monitoring applications where high output, wide dispersion sound reproduction
is desired. The 800wa has an extremely low profile (10.5") and dramatically
improves the sight lines of any stage. Active 800wa's can easily create a sophisticated
monitoring system where each monitor can be individually mixed and set up with
the user's personal preferences.
The FUSSION 800wa is a High Resolution, 2-way, low profile active stage monitoring
speaker system. It features two specially designed, high output mid-bass transducers
and a 1" exit throat compression driver mounted on a studio quality wave-guide.
The system is powered by a high current, low distortion 250-watt amplifier located
within the speaker enclosure.
The eight-inch mid-bass transducers and wave-guide are mounted at angle so
they are ideally positioned facing the performer lowering the profile of the
enclosure. The wave-guide is the same as the one used in Mackie Designs HR824
active studio monitor system. High frequency information is reproduced by a
Mackie High Precision M44 compression driver.
The FUSSION Series 1800SA (and 1800S) is an extreme output, active subwoofer
system. Designed to live on the road, this subwoofer system is a "double-18"
design broken down into two individual enclosures that make load in and load
out quick and easy. It incorporates a 3000 watt high efficiency amplifier system
and two front loaded, high precision 18-inch woofers mounted within their own
cabinets. Connection and setup is a breeze, take your subwoofer line level signal
and plug it in.
The FUSSION 1800SA is specifically designed to work with the FUSSION 1800S.
The system has been specially designed to meet the rigors of powering high excursion
18" woofers. By being placed inches away from the driver within its own
protected enclosure, the amplifier enjoys several benefits. First it sees constant
impedance and a non-reactive load which substantially extends its life and increases
performance. It also sits on a mammoth heat sink that eliminates the need for
fans and eliminates service cycles. A tremendous benefit of having the amplifier
located within the subwoofer cabinet is the speed with which power is delivered.
This is achieved by eliminating heavy gauge, expensive speaker cables. For more information, visit Mackie's web site at www.mackie.com. |
