UnitY For 02R Gets Finalizer and ADAT/TDIF I/O

January 28, 1999

TC Electronic announces a whole new set of major enhancements to it's UnitY card for the Yamaha 02R digital console, bringing many new exciting capabilities to the platform. On the software side, UnitY now offers Finalizer studio mastering technology as an optional type of processing in lieu of M2000 style effects, in addition to many new routing features. On the hardware side, there is now a 24 bit ADAT/TDIF I/O card available.

UnitY cards now ship with both M2000 and Finalizer software active for a 100 hour trial period. At the end of that time the UnitY owner will be prompted to select which configuration they would like their UnitY to continue running in - M2000, or Finalizer. Once selected the algorithms Unity will allow access to will be either M2000, or Finalizer only. If the user chooses to obtain access to both types of signal processing on a permanent basis, they can purchase an additional software license to aquire and unlocking access code direct from TC Electronic. The retail cost of the software license is $795.

In addition to the optional AES/EBU I/O originally offered by TC, there is also a new optional 24 bit combination ADAT/TDIF I/O card that allows the user access to the inputs and outputs within the card slot occupied by the UnitY. It is important to note that normal Yamaha I/O cards are only offered in either ADAT or TDIF and the Yamaha ADAT card only supports up to 20 bit transfers, making the TC ADAT/TDIF option an important development in support of the Yamaha 02R owner. The retail price of the TC UnitY ADAT/TDIF I/O option is $395.

A new operating system is now available free of charge for the 02R/UnitY enabling an even more flexible routings of the UnitY signals. Previously the basic 44 channel Yamaha channel limitation was always in effect. Now on a console fitted with UnitY the user can mix on up to 48 or even 52 channels utilizing a new extended routing mode.

More new routings include direct returns to the Stereo Bus, return to Stereo Fader 23/24 and direct effect outputs on UnitY cards with external I/O capability. These new routings provide benefits to many different kind of mixing environments including live sound and post production. 150 new factory presets are also included with the new software.

With the introduction of UnitY, TC re-defined the use of the 02R's extension slots by adding effects to the plug-in possibilities, yet
maintaining I/O functions. UnitY plug-in cards for Yamaha 02R's provide TC quality effects and allow the user to customize the I/O capabilities of the mixer to their requirements.

UnitY runs TC Electronic software on its own hi-speed DSP, proprietary Co-processor and Host processor to form a very powerful combination with true 24 bit signal processing structure.
