January 28, 1999Yamaha Corportation of America smashes the price/performance barrier
with the DW Series of Dreadnought Acoustic Guitars-Models DW-6, DW-8,
DW-10, DW-20-to be unveiled at the Winter NAMM show. Covering a wide range
of price points, all DW series guitars share high-grade materials, excellent
construction, attractive styling, and big, resonant sound.
"The DW series offers guitarists traditionally designed, solid-top dreadnoughts
that continue to be consistent in quality and sophistication," states
David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group. "With handcrafted
inlays of abalone and mother of pearl, these acoustics are sure to turn
a few heads."
The series ranges from the simply stated DW-6 all the way to the opulent
DW-20; each model has a solid Spruce top, a Nato neck with smooth, satin
finish mated to a Rosewood fingerboard and a Rosewood bridge.
The flagship DW-20 is a showpiece worthy of the grand stage, thanks to
its premium woods and luxurious appointments: Natural Body Gloss Finish,
Abalone and Ivory soundhole inlay and binding, Mother of Pearl fretboard
markers, and Gold Tuners.
With a Rosewood back and sides, the DW-20 has the deep, powerful acoustic
tone to back up its elegant appearance.
For those who appreciate subtle beauty and bold tone, DW 10 also boasts
Rosewood back and sides, Gold hardware, and Mother of Pearl fretboard
markers, and offers a distinctive looking Ivory and wood mosaic for soundhole
inlay and body binding.
The performance workhorses of the series are the DW-8 and its companion
models, the DW-8L (left handed), the DWX-8 (Acoustic/Electric), and the
DW-8-12 (12-string). Each model is crafted of Nato wood back and sides,
Ivory and Abalone inlay and rosette, Ivory binding, and gold tuners. Available
finishes include Body Gloss Natural, Vintage Sunburst and Black.
The most understated stylistically of the series, the DW-6, boasts pro-level
construction quality and tone at an ultra-affordable suggested retail
price. The DW-6 has the same high-grade solid Spruce top found on its
costlier brethern, plus Nato back and sides, Chrome hardware, and Ivory-cell
rosette. Finish is Natural Body Gloss.
"Yamaha has been a world leader in the crafting of acoustic guitars,"
says Gary Cook, product manager, Yamaha Guitars. "Our new DW series is
evidence. These guitars have a great sound and feel that will appeal to
acoustic guitarists of all styles." For more information,
