Yamaha Introduces New Portable Drum Set
January 28, 1999Ask a drummer what the worst part of gigging is, and you'll almost always
get the same response: Setting up, tearing down, and carting home the
drums. Yamaha's new HipGig Drum Set, to be unveiled at this year's Winter
NAMM, is the first product to seriously tackle this age-old problem, offering
the working musician a fully functional, professional, 4-piece drum set
that sounds great and is easy to transport.
"The Yamaha HipGig set is the first drum set that has addressed portability,"
states Jerry Andreas, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums. "Drummers have
always dreamed of a complete drum set that can be packed up into two gig
bags."
The set consists of a punchy 16-in. diameter by 20-in. Bass Drum, with
Yamaha's special floating bass drum system, a pair of ultra-dynamic Toms
(10 x 6 in. and 13 x 7 in.), and a crackling 12 x 5 in. Snare. All the
drums are made of high-quality, 7-ply Birch/Mahogany shells finished in
eye-catching Mellow Yellow Lacquer. Toms come equipped with Remo Pinstripe
heads, the Bass Drum with Renaissance PowerStroke heads. The HipGig includes
hardware and soft cases.
No
drum on the market-at any price-can match the HipGig's convenient setup.
The Snare and Toms are stored inside the Bass drum during transport, then
mounted to the Bass drum at the gig. All hardware fits inside the matching,
tubular-style drum throne. The entire kit can get from car to club in
one easy trip.
Best of all, the HipGig offers all of the craftsmanship, sound-quality,
and durability that has made Yamaha a world-wide professional's choice.
"The Yamaha HipGig set is a professional kit with professional features,"
remarks Dave Jewell, Drum product manager. "The powerful Bass Drum and
the Snare drum sound incredible. What other drum set can you set up and
tear down faster than anyone else in the band?" For more information,
