Record Now Series Begins with Free Guide on Choosing and Using Microphones The first in a series of guides on equipment

M-Audio has announced the Record Now series of free guidebooks.
The Record Now series is designed to help musicians make informed choices
about music technology, as well as provide tips and techniques on how to get
the most out of today's gear. These guides are designed to be short and easy
to read and reference.
The first title in the Record Now series, Choosing and Using Microphones,
focuses on microphone technology and techniques. Technical topics include
the different types of microphones (with an emphasis on condenser mics),
design attributes of capsules and electronics, polar patterns
characteristics, specifications, manufacturing standards, cleaning and
storage. The techniques covered include basic miking principals, close vs.
distance miking, various stereo miking arrangements, and microphone tips for
common applications like vocals, guitar, piano and drums.
Record Now! Choosing and Using Microphones is available in print free of
