Guitar Exhibit Opening at Musuem of Making MusicString Fever : A Century of Guitar Fascination, running from March 8, 2003 - November 30, 2003 February 21, 2003
Throughout 2003, the Museum of Making Music presents its second Annual Series, "StringFever: A Century of Guitar Fascination," featuring three unique aspects of one of history's most intriguing instruments.
Beginning on March 8, 2003, the first segment focuses on hollow-body guitars. "Handcrafted Artistry" showcases archtop guitars and the inimitable and world famous D'Angelico and D'Aquisto guitars known to jazz aficionados everywhere.
"Wood Vibrations," starting June 7th, focuses on the impact of the acoustic guitar since the turn of the century and centers around an exclusive exhibit of The Martin Guitar Company's highly regarded instruments.
Finally, on September 5th and continuing through November, the "Eclectic Electric" segment resounds with an amplified look at the significance of the electric guitar.
This segment will kick off with a public presentation by Paul Reed Smith, Founder PRS Guitars, discussing his companys history. Smith will also be involved in the museums posthumous tribute to industry pioneer Ted McCarty, who was Smiths personal friend and long-time advisor. Several PRS guitar models still bear the McCarty name, and the museum will have a good selection of these and other vintage PRS guitars on exhibit in its five galleries for the duration of the series.
StringFever will offer special programming, exclusive displays, tours, performances and educational clinics highlighting the guitar in all its six-string glory. Additionally, all five museum galleries will be enhanced by artifacts related to each segment of the series. For more information, visit their web site at www.museumofmakingmusic.org. |
